Let them use some simple household items to make their own wreaths.
Our main goal during the holidays is to spend time with family and have fun. Since December is so busy, I like to find simple open activities and handicrafts that my children can complete without much guidance from me.
This week, we decided to build a wreath-making station using materials already around the house.
My children like to make spooky Halloween wreaths for their bedroom doors, so we decided to decorate their doors again for Christmas.
Materials needed to make a Christmas wreath
Paper plate
scissors
paint
glue
Decorations around the house (ribbons, tissue paper, buttons, sequins, etc.)
How to make a wreath with kids
Continue to cut out the middle of the paper plate, especially if you have young children.
Place your material in a place where your child can easily access it. Consider age and ability, and only list materials that are suitable for your child's age.
Let the kids start creating! Encourage them to use glue to add the materials of their choice to the plate.
Sit down and join them and do your own creation! This may be my favorite part. In addition to enjoying handcrafting with my child, this is an easy way to show my child how to properly use some materials she is not familiar with (instead of doing her project for her).
Let your wreaths dry, then hang them up as festive Christmas decorations!
This activity is not only very simple, but you can also leave the materials outside for a few hours (depending on the age of your child), and the children can come back again and again to add their works or make new ones.
When you are done, you can easily put a wreath on every door in your home!
